What we believe

We believe in one God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, who made the universe and everything in it.  We believe that He is working everything that happens in this world for the good of those who love Him and obey Him.  He is supreme and perfect in all things and worthy of all our praise.

We believe that God has revealed Himself clearly, finally and fully in His Word, the Bible, and that He has maintained that Word free from error down through the ages, so that we have an accurate and dependable record today of His mind and will for us.

We believe that God created man, male and female in His own image, with a perfect nature and desire to obey Him.  At the instigation of Satan, Adam and Eve rebelled against God’s one law and destroyed that perfect world, bringing in sin that leads to death.  That sinful and rebellious nature is transmitted to everyone who comes into the world, so that all of us are born natural rebels against God who face His understandable anger.  In the judgment that God promised on the breaking of His law He remembered mercy by also promising a Saviour.

We believe that the Son of God, Jesus Christ, is the only Saviour of those whom God has chosen from before the beginning of time.  At the appointed time He came down to  earth as a man to fulfil many prophecies from the Old Testament that centre on Him.  As a man He lived a completely blameless and sinless life and chose, by the will of His Father, to lay down that life through crucifixion in the place of millions of sinners for whom He had promised to die and face judgment.  He rose from the dead on the third day to show that all that had been said about Him as Saviour and God and Prince of the universe was and is true.  After a period of instruction to His followers, He returned to His Father’s side in heaven, where He now reigns in glory.  When God brings time to an end Jesus will return to gather His followers and to usher in His eternal kingdom.

We believe that the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Godhead, whom the Father and the Son sent into the world after Jesus died to carry on His work.  The Spirit preserves God’s Word, uses it, especially in preaching, to convict people of sin, comes to live in the lives of believers and builds the church of God, against which the powers of hell cannot prevail.

We believe that the church of Jesus Christ is the only entity in this world that will last throughout all eternity.  It is the body of which Jesus is the sole head and king and contains people from every nation on earth, to whom God has given new life and whom He has enabled, through the Holy Spirit, to hate their sinful breaking of His commandments and to turn from their sin to Jesus in faith.

We believe that God will bring all those who have repented of their sin and have trusted in Jesus as Saviour and King through death to His perfect and eternal home which is called heaven, where we will delight in praising and serving Him. Those who continue in their sins and who reject Jesus as Saviour and King will find themselves condemned to conscious, eternal punishment in hell, which is where Satan and his evil angels will also be consigned.
